Modicon
Modicon created the first programmable logic controller (PLC) in the United States in 1968. The device’s success gave rise to a global industry that has expanded considerably over the past 30 years. PLCs put intelligence in machines and automated processes used in industry, infrastructure and buildings.
Modicon join a long list of companies now owned by Schneider Electric. The Modicon product family includes items such as PLCs, Safety Controllers and I/O Modules. The acquisition of Modicon by Schneider took place in 1996 when AEG and Groupe Schneider combined. AEG had previously acquired Modicon from Gould Electronics back in 1989.
